During the Indo Defence 2024 event held from June 11–14, 2025, BTI Defence — the appointed supplier of the Submarine Rescue Vessel (SRV) system for the Indonesian Navy through a contract with the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia — signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) as further steps ahead of the contract’s activation. The SRV system itself consists of two main components: the SRV-F Mk3 rescue submersible and its supporting mothership.
As part of its commitment to advancing the domestic defense industry, BTI Defence signed an MoU with PT. Ben Santosa Shipyard, a local shipbuilder that will construct the mothership for the Submarine Rescue Vessel program. The vessel will be built at PT. Ben Santosa Shipyard’s facilities located on Madura Island, based on designs provided by BTI Defence.
The mothership, to be constructed by BTI Defence with the support of PT. Ben Santosa Shipyard, will have a length of 92.5 meters, a beam of 19.5 meters, a draft of 5.3 meters, and an air draft of 28.5 meters. With an estimated displacement of ±5,320 tons, the ship will be capable of speeds up to 17 knots in calm waters (at 85% MCR). It will carry the SRV-F Mk3 rescue submersible, feature a helipad for rapid response operations, and include a dedicated hyperbaric chamber and medical support facilities.
The second MoU was signed between BTI Defence and Praxis Automation Far East for the supply of the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) and Dynamic Positioning System (DP-2). The IPMS package from Praxis will include an addressable fire alarm system, power management system, tank gauging system, and a damage control system — all critical to the mothership's operation.
Regarding the two signed MoUs, the Director of BTI Defence, Mr. Peter Tjahjono stated:
“The Submarine Rescue Vessel project is a milestone for BTI Defence. We are fully committed to delivering Indonesia’s first submarine rescue system to the Indonesian Navy through the Ministry of Defence. We thank you for the trust placed in us, and we will ensure this project’s success.”
Meanwhile, SMP - Submarine Manufacturing & Products Ltd, the developer and manufacturer of the SRV-F Mk3, is also entering a new domain focused on subsurface warfare — an area increasingly critical in modern defense. This includes considerations for special forces operations at varying depths and the growing threat of sabotage to undersea cables and pipelines, which are becoming strategic vulnerabilities in future warfare.
